Lost Dog

If you have discovered your dog is missing, it may have been found running at large and transported to Snake River Animal Shelter (SRAS) located at 3000 Lindsay Blvd. in Idaho Falls. Please contact them at (208) 523-4219 . If your dog is not there, you can file a missing report in case someone finds your dog and calls in its description or transports it to SRAS.

If your dog is microchipped and the information is current, or your dog is wearing other identification, you will be notified that your dog was picked up as soon as reasonably possible.

Check the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter in case your dog was found outside the Ammon City limits.

Check the Ammon Pets Facebook group, Snake River Animal Shelter and Idaho Falls Animal Shelter Facebook pages, and other local lost and found Facebook groups. Post a picture of your dog and be sure to include your phone number and where you last saw your dog.

Upload a picture of your dog to Petco Love Lost https://lost.petcolove.org. Petco Love Lost uses facial recognition software to help report or search for lost and found pets.

If your dog is microchipped, contact the microchip company and verify your information is current and report your dog missing. Some companies make a flyer for you and send it out to local animal shelters. You can create your own flyers as well and place them in stores, gas stations, veterinarian offices, etc. Please DO NOT place flyers on telephone poles or traffic signs as this would be in violation of the City’s sign code.

Found Dog

If you have found a dog, ideally it will be wearing a collar and tags to contact the owner directly. Leave a voice message and/or text message on the numbers provided.

Upload a picture of the found dog to Petco Love Lost https://lost.petcolove.org. You can share the listing you created with Facebook groups such as Ammon Pets and other local lost and found groups, Snake River Animal Shelter and Idaho Falls Animal Shelter pages.

You may also consider getting the dog scanned for a microchip by a local veterinarian’s office. If you cannot hold on to the pet for a short period of time for the owner to return your call, you may report it to Public Safety Dispatch at (208) 529-1200 for pick up.

If the dog was found within Ammon City limits, the dog may be reported to Snake River Animal Shelter directly at (208) 523-4219 to see if someone has filed a missing report. Please feel free to transport the dog to SRAS once they have confirmed the found location is in Ammon and you cannot hold onto the dog temporarily to reunite it with its owner.

If the dog was believed to be found in Ammon, but is actually outside of the City limits, the dog will need to be impounded at the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter. You may transport it yourself or report the found dog to Dispatch at (208) 529-1200 for pick up.

If you see a dog roaming around, you may attempt to catch and contain it if you can do so safely. Please DO NOT chase the dog. This will only frighten the dog and make it less likely to be caught and brought to safety.

If you are unable to catch or contain it, report the description of the dog, where you saw it, and the last known direction of travel to Dispatch at (208) 529-1200. If there is time to take a quick picture, it would be helpful to post on social media to try to locate and inform the dog’s owner.

Found Cat

The National Animal Control Association (NACA) recommends: “Impoundment of healthy adult cats reduces the likelihood of reuniting families with pets: Lost cats are 10-50 times more likely to be reunited with their owners if they stay in the neighborhood of origin than through an animal shelter. In fact, the most successful reunification method for cats is the cat returning home on its own. A family may not consider their free-roaming cat lost until the point when the cat is removed from the neighborhood and transported to a shelter.”

Following NACA’s recommendation, Ammon will only provide attention for injured or sick cats through SRAS.

If you have found a friendly cat, upload a picture of the found cat to Petco Love Lost https://lost.petcolove.org. You can share the listing you created with Facebook groups such as Ammon Pets and other local lost and found groups, SRAS and Idaho Falls Animal Shelter pages to spread the word.

A local vet can scan the cat for a microchip. If no ID is found, it is best to leave the cat where you found it and not feed it or allow it into your home. This will encourage the cat to go back to its own home and owner.
