Mayor Brian Powell grew up in the Parker, Idaho area, where he learned the value of working hard, playing hard, and contributing to the community. He is a graduate of Boise State University, and he and his family remain proud Bronco supporters.
Mayor Powell and his wife, Elyse, raised their four children in Ammon, where their family attended local schools, participated in church, sports, and community activities, and benefited from the strong leadership and civic culture that define the city. Elyse is an educator with Bonneville School District 93, providing Mayor Powell with a close connection to the challenges and opportunities facing local students and families. Now a proud grandfather of two, he values safe neighborhoods, strong community values, and open, accessible local government. As a family, they enjoy traveling together and spending time in the beautiful Idaho outdoors.
Mayor Powell brings more than 15 years of public service experience spanning municipal governance, regional infrastructure, and technology systems. He served 12 years on the Ammon City Council, including time as Council President, and has also served in regional leadership roles supporting long-term infrastructure planning and environmental stewardship.
During this time, Mayor Powell played a key role in the development of Ammon’s municipal fiber optic infrastructure, helping position the city as a national leader in community-owned broadband. He also helped guide major investments in regional wastewater infrastructure, supporting capital planning, financing strategies, and regulatory compliance to protect public health and support responsible growth.
Throughout his public service, Mayor Powell has emphasized fiscal responsibility, transparency, and collaboration with staff, regional partners, and residents. With a background in public finance, technology, and data analytics, he is committed to using modern tools to better understand growth trends, infrastructure needs, and long-term costs to support sound, data-informed decision-making.
Mayor Powell is focused on steady leadership, responsible development, and ensuring the City of Ammon remains a strong, well-prepared community for future generations.
